“A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done” – Vince Lombardi
One reason why people succeed at accomplishing goals is through their determination to become successful. You must first be able to visualize where you are going before there is any hope of achieving your goals. Written goals are like maps with directions.
You have got to have a destination, direction and a plan of attack.
If you were starting out on a journey or vacation would you just get in your car and drive with no sense of direction on how to get where you are going. You could get in your car and start driving and still end up at your destination. But the chances of you getting there faster would be greatly increased by using a map with directions to your destination.
Written goals are meant to be read like a map, you must have directions, a path on which to travel with the intention of arriving at your destination.
Write down a clear to the point statement of what it is you want to receive out of life.
Your Goals must be in writing. Once it goes into writing the mind will start working on them subconsciously. The traditional goal checklist is largely a product of old technology a pen and a piece of paper.
It is a good idea to write the goals down on a small piece of paper or index card and carry them around with you either in your purse or your wallet. This way you can review them often.
The difference between a goal and a dream is the written word.
Example:
Let’s say one of your goals is to get a truck. The first thing you need to do is write the goal down. Write it down in the form of a positive affirmation.
I am going to practice my typing 30 minutes each day.
I will start smiling and saying hello as I walk by people at work.
a) Is this a goal you can actually accomplish? Is this goal believable? If the goal is not believable it is going to be hard to accomplish. Smaller goals are going to be easier to complete and the more you complete the more goals you will set for yourself.
Can you practice typing? Yes
Will you be able to find 30 minutes a day and practice typing? Yes
b) Is the goal going to be challenging? Those easy goals will form good habits as you complete them. You will see your self starting to make progress. The small goals will keep you motivated to write new goals. The larger goals that you set for yourself will force you to grow Mentally. You need to have short term and long-term goals so you can continue making progress while staying motivated.
Is the typing goal challenging? Yes
Is the typing goal a short-term goal? It could be a short or a long-term goal depending on how many words I want to be able to type per minute. If I am typing 30 words per minute today and I would like to be able to type 50 words per minute I might deal accomplish this goal in three months. If I want to be able to type 120 words per minute this might take up to two years. Now it would be considered a long-term goal
c) Start to make an outline on how you wish to achieve your goals. The help you will need to accomplish your goals such as the, information, knowledge, people, organizations. In each case write them out in a clear list and go over them that.
Here is an outline of my typing goal:
April 2, 2001 typing 30 words per minute
May 2, 2001 typing 40 words per minute
June 2, 2001 typing 50 words per minute
Do I need more information, a book, a teacher, computer software or do I need to find a local class on typing?
I will choose to get a computer software program and hold myself accountable for the progress I am making.
Keep your outlines simple and to the point.
d) Set a deadline for your goals. Analyze where you are now in relation to the goal and then measure how long you will reasonably need to complete the goal. It’s not unreasonable for a long-term goal to be over five years.
In my outline I have provided dates and how much progress I am going to accomplish. If I can’t meet my deadlines I just need to extend them a little longer. These deadlines are not set in stone and never should be.
e) As you can see I have written a clear goal with a proper outline and now I need to set the goal into action. You should read your goals daily. Set them by your bedside, your desk at work, or post them on the refrigerator. Putting these goals in action will require consistent action from you.
I will practice typing from seven o’clock to seven thirty each night during the week. If I miss one day during the week I will use Saturday or Sunday as a backup day.
You can always plan on problems in reasons why you’re not going to be able to practice typing one day. So in this case it would be great to be able to have a cushion as part of your plan. Things happen during the week that will interfere with being able to stick with your goals.
f) Start visualizing our goals. Get a clear mental picture of the goals one at a time. Start seeing your goals as completed. Follow the visualization process in Chapter 4. If you can visualize your goals clearly you will start to find ways to accomplish them.
Look at yourself typing more letters to your friends and family.
I can’t use my new skills at work for career advancement.
Start visualizing what you are going to do with your new typing skills.
Why do I want to be able to type faster? I am planning on writing and book therefore this will be a useful tool in being able to speed up the writing process.
“You must have long term goals to keep you from being frustrated by short term failures” – Charles C. Noble
Let’s say one of my goals is to go fishing in Alaska. I write my goals out in outline form. My flight plan, which fishing poles I’m going to use, whose going with me, how I’m going to get the money to pay for the vacation, where exactly I’m going fishing,(be specific). Now I start visualizing the trip from images off of the Internet or from magazines that I have collected about Alaska. Soon you’ll find yourself going to the store for groceries as you drive by a sign that says Alaskan cruise packages. You have driven by this travel agency hundreds of times on your way to the grocery store. You think to yourself that’s odd I remember seeing that travel agency before. What is happening in your mind is that you’re reticular activator is now in motion. You are starting to see things that are familiar to your subconscious mind. This goes back to the experiment earlier on with visualizing things and now you start to notice them. Now while you are at the grocery store you are wondering in the back of your mind if this travel agency has any other vacation packages. On your way back home from the grocery store you go to the travel agency and you find out that they have low cost vacation packages that include fishing, Lodging and air travel.
This is a very common occurrence after you start goal setting you will start noticing more things that were always there before. You might seek help for a certain goal and realize a bookstore or local library ride around the corner.
Get a clear MENTAL PICTURE of the goal already accomplished. Make the image crystal clear, as vivid in the mind’s eye as you possibly can. Play that picture over and over in your mind.
You can think about the goals as long as you want to.
You can plan out how you’re going to accomplish your goals with a outline.
You can tell every person on this earth about your goals, you can print your goals out in big letters paste them all over your house, you can read them every day out loud, you can be the most positive energetic optimistic creative person around. But if you take no action you will never accomplish anything.
Now that you have written goals it is time to start accomplishing them.
Remember persistence and staying motivated are the main keys to accomplishing your goals. There is an old saying “Never… never… never… ever give up”.
br
I am sure you have heard or probably have used the Global Positioning System known simply as GPS, right? Well in case you havent it is a system of satellites and receivers with a precise-positioning and navigation tool to help you pinpoint where you are and where you need to go? The Department of Defense first designed the system to accurately determine the locations of soldiers, military vehicles, planes and ships world-wide. Today, it has extended into the commercial and scientific worlds. Commercially, GPS is used as a navigation and positioning tool in airplanes, boats, cars, and for almost all outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, and kayaking. Scientifically, GPS plays an important role in the earth sciences. Meteorologists use it for weather forecasting and global climate studies; and geologists can use it as a highly accurate method of surveying and in earthquake studies to measure tectonic motions during and in between earthquakes.

My question is how accurate is it? As for me, I became totally confused when I had to use it on a recent trip to Iowa. The car I rented came with a GPS unit and the clerk obviously assumed that I knew how to use it. It was a total nightmare for me. I was in a strange land-I had no idea how to get around town…at all! And of course being the organized person that I am MapQuest my entire trip, so there wouldnt be any problems to and from my destination…well guess what? I was wrong. My confusion started at the MLI Airport when I ask the clerk where the Country Inn Suite was located, and he said type the address in your GPS and it will take you right to your location, so having some digital literacy I did, got lost and travelled 40 miles past my destination.

I made a couple stops to ask for directions, which only led to more confusion and dead ends, so what did I do? I pulled over to the side and did the only thing I knew to do…I cried! I forgot that my daughter was with me, until she advised me to pray and ask God for His help…why didnt I think of that? As we prayed for help I began feeling better and more confident that God would lead the way, and yes, He did! I followed my GPS (Gods Presence Sovereignty) and with guidance from His precision navigational named the Holy Spirit I located the Country Inn Suites and checked in.

What I learned that night is when we travel to fast in life we lose our focus, and our sense of directions, causing stumbling blocks and obstacles to get in our way. I had MapQuest and a GPS unit and still got lost…why? I failed to ask questions about my directions for clarity to reach my destination while at the airport; instead I relied on my own recognizance that resulted in pure frustration. More importantly, I learned that no matter how prepared I was I still needed Gods guidance not just in my travels but in my life. What about you? Have you been travelling in the fast lane? If so, be determined to get back on track with your GPS (Gods Presence Sovereignty) and take time to listen and ask questions to stay on the right road to your destination.

br
My mentor bishop David Oyedepo, the presiding bishop of living faith church A.k.a. winners chapel often told me that john, no matter how far you travel on a wrong road you will never get to your destination; your destination can be anything or everything to you depending on your perspective of life. Now lets pause a while and think back to all those yester-years when we had a dream of doing certain things, we had goals we set out to accomplish, we had desires we hoped to fulfill, now lets narrow it down to one very important task that we never accomplished regardless of what ever excuses we proffer, we know that deep down in our heart if we could turn back the hands of time we will definitely make different decisions, we will most certainly act in different ways than we did, if only we had know that the road we were traveling on was leading to the wrong destination we would have made a u-turn.

A proverbs says if you do not have a destination then any road will take you there to live a life devoid of purpose is to live passing through the earth and not leaving an impact on the people around you, come to think of it that definitely is a waste of destiny and life.

You need to do an appraisal of your daily activities to know if you are growing and contributing to the earths development and if you are not you need to make a u-turn, you need to turn away from the bad vices that has held you captive, you need a u-turn from the bad influences of drugs, alcohols and other substance abuse.

At the end of everyday we need to ask ourselves a soul searching question; have I lived today to the very best of my abilities, is there a task I procrastinated on or something I ought to have done but left it simply because it was not convenient for me, is there a friend, family or business associate I should have returned their calls which I didnt, is there someone I should have visited but because it was at the other end of town I simply ignored it, our answer to any of this searching question is yes, then we need to make a total u-turn and be determined to live a better life style based on purpose.

Until you define a purpose for your life you do not truly begin to appreciate how enormous are the things you can accomplish, it is far easier to die for a cause you believe in any body can die for a cause but it will take a man with a well defined purpose and a strong desire to live for a cause they believe in. To live a dream and be both easy and hard depending on your perspective, what are those plans you have for tomorrow, what are those things you need to accomplish for the future? put pen to paper and write out in clear terms your dreams and plans, no matter how impossible they may look to you today its what you really want to accomplish, when written out it becomes clearer to you, with the power of focus and positive thinking your mind begins to believe that you can accomplish them.

Read it out to your self daily and believe in the power of your mind to accomplish any goals that you set before it.

Think back to all those years youve allowed to go by, those unproductive years that you have wasted, if only you had a solid plan for today in as little as five years ago you would have experienced a different result today.
Come to think of it; today is that future you talked about some five, ten, fifteen or is it twenty years ago, do you look back with nostalgia today and wonder how did time fly and leave you behind? Well one thing is sure you refused to make a U-TURN when you needed too, but now its not late you can still correct those mistakes of the past, its not too late until you give up or loose hope that you cant accomplish the task that is still ahead of you.

Look all around you there are still one or two things you can do that will make an impact on the people around you, there is still one little boy or girl that you can be a role model for, show them the pit falls on the road to success that you passed and help them avoid it, let them know that even if lifes experiences are the best teachers they definitely do not have to stumble and fall to know how painful a bruised knee can be all they need do is asked someone who has been hurt for then to realize how to avoid such pain.

You might just be the sign post that tells the future generations that make a U-TURN now to avoid the life of pain and misery I have lived, no matter what situation you are in you can still make a difference if you tell your life story to someone who might listen to your advice and live a better life than you had lived then you can put a smile on your face that you have tutored a ward rightly and you can live a second chance thru your protégée even if its too late for you at least you can make the difference for someone who is about to start his or her life by been the sign post for a better life filled with purpose and the pursuit of the right values.

Life is really beautiful when you learn to make U-turns at the right time, that next turn may just be your last chance to make a change take that U-TURN now.
br
Wishing has acquired an undeserved reputation these days as a waste of time. And dreams arent far behind it in having a bad rap. Its goals, goals, goals that get the glory as the rail to ride to your success. But Im here to tell you that having a goal without a dream is like having a cart without a horse, and that wishes are what feeds it.

The number one reason, after all, that people dont set goals is that they dont know what they really want. Do you know? When somebody stuck a blazing cake in front of you on your last birthday and told you to make a wish, did your wish spring without hesitation into your mind? Or did you have to think what to wish for?

If you look up wish in the dictionary, youll see it defined as an expression of a desire, longing, or strong inclination. Its our desires, our wishes, that build our dreams. Without them, our dreams get built on weak foundations created by others desires?usually others who are working really hard to get us to buy what theyre selling. But build your dreams on the wishes that rise up from your heart, and theyll be fueled with the power of authentic desire. When you hear yourself saying, I wish . . ., pay attention!

Wishes are like the pigments that paint the picture of your dream. Gather enough of them and they will portray it for you as a rich, detailed scene of the place your heart most wants you to be.

Once your dream starts to come into focus for you, use it as a playground for your imagination. Walk around in it, get to know its contours, to find sections of it call you the most. See the action within it; feel the motion, the romance, the drama of it. Feel the emotion it generates within you when you imagine it a real possibility for your life.

When you can taste it and smell it, when it starts whispering to you and flashing before your vision as you fall asleep at night and in idle moments throughout your day, youre ready to begin setting goals.

Goals are your dream jig sawed into pieces. Theyre the facets of the diamond thats your dream, the recipe for the cake, the travel directions to the next milestone. In essence, a goal is a plan for transforming your dream, piece by piece, into reality. Goals tell you what you need to become to live in your dream. They tell you what resources to acquire and use, what kinds of people to model and meet, what kind of ideas to seek out and put to work, what knowledge to acquire. Goals are the vehicle that transports you to your dream–the one made of wishes from your heart.

Wishes, dreams, and goals are the stuff from which all success is fashioned, each playing its essential part. Wish well, dream richly, and ride with passion. Let that be the toast you raise to life at the dawn of each new day./pbr

Man from a psychological standpoint of development is not what he
should be. He does not possess the self-mastery, the
self-directing power of Psychic – Concentration that is his by right.
He has not trained himself in a way to promote his self-mastery.
Every balanced mind possesses the faculties whose chief duties
are to engineer, direct and concentrate the operations of the
mind, both in a mental and physical sense. Man must learn to
control not only his mind but his bodily movements.
When the controlling faculties (autonomic) are in an untrained
condition, the impulses, passions, emotions, thoughts, actions
and habits of the person suffer from lack of regulation, and the
procedure of mental Psychic – Concentration is not good, not because the
mind is necessarily weak in the autonomic department of the
faculties, but because the mind is not properly trained.
When the self-regulating faculties are not developed the
impulses, appetites, emotions and passions have full swing to do
as they please and the mind becomes impulsive, restless,
emotional and irregular in its action. This is what makes mental
Psychic – Concentration poor.
When the self-guiding faculties are weak in development, the
person always lacks the power of mental Psychic – Concentration. Therefore
you cannot learn to concentrate until you develop those very
powers that qualify you to be able to concentrate. So if you
cannot concentrate one of the following is the cause:
1. “Deficiency of the motor centers.”
2. “An impulsive and emotional mind.”
3. “An untrained mind.”
The last fault can soon be removed by systematic practice. It is
easiest to correct.
The impulsive and emotional state of mind can best be corrected
by restraining anger, passion and excitement, hatred, strong
impulses, intense emotions, fretfulness, etc. It is impossible to
concentrate when you are in any of these excited states.
These can be naturally decreased by avoiding such food and drinks
as have nerve weakening or stimulating influences, or a tendency
to stir up the passions, the impulses and the emotions; it is a
very good practice to watch and associate with those persons that
are steady, calm, controlled and conservative.
Correcting the deficiency of the motor centers is harder because
as the person’s brain is undeveloped he lacks will power.
Many have the idea that when they get into a negative state they
are concentrating, but this is not so. They may be meditating,
though not concentrating. Those that are in a negative state a
good deal of the time cannot, as a rule, concentrate very well;
they develop instead abstraction of the mind, or absence of mind.
Their power of Psychic – Concentration becomes weaker and they find it
difficult to concentrate on anything. They very often injure the
brain, if they keep up this state. To be able to concentrate you
must possess strength of mind. The person that is feeble-minded
cannot concentrate his mind, because of lack of will. The mind
that cannot center itself on a special subject, or thought, is
weak; also the mind that cannot draw itself from a subject or
thought is weak. But the person that can center his mind on any
problem, no matter what it is, and remove any unharmonious
impressions has strength of mind. Psychic – Concentration, first, last and
all the time, means strength of mind.
Through Psychic – Concentration a person is able to collect and hold his
mental and physical energies at work. A concentrated mind pays
attention to thoughts, words, acts and plans. The person who
allows his mind to roam at will will never accomplish a great
deal in the world. He wastes his energies. If you work, think,
talk and act aimlessly, and allow your brain to wander from your
subject to foreign fields, you will not be able to concentrate.
You concentrate at the moment when you say, “I want to, I can, I
will.”
Some Mistakes Some People Make. If you waste your time reading
sensational stories or worthless newspaper items, you excite the
impulsive and the emotional faculties, and this means you are
weakening your power of Psychic – Concentration. You will not be a free
engineer, able to pilot yourself to success.
Psychic – Concentration of the mind can only be developed by watching
yourself closely. All kinds of development commence with close
attention. You should regulate your every thought and feeling.
When you commence to watch yourself and your own acts and also
the acts of other people, you use the faculties of autonomy, and,
as you continue to do so, you improve your faculties, until in
time you can engineer your every thought, wish and plan. To be
able to focalize the mind on the object at hand in a conscious
manner leads to Psychic – Concentration. Only the trained mind can
focalize. To hold a thought before it until all the faculties
shall have had time to consider that thought is Psychic – Concentration.
The person that cannot direct his thoughts, wishes, plans,
resolutions and studies cannot possibly succeed to the fullest
extent. The person that is impulsive one moment and calm the next
has not the proper control over himself. He is not a master of
his mind, nor of his thoughts, feelings and wishes. Such a person
cannot be a success. When he becomes irritated, he irritates
others and spoils all chances of any concerned doing their best.
But the person that can direct his energies and hold them at work
in a concentrated manner controls his every work and act, and
thereby gains power to control others. He can make his every move
serve a useful end and every thought a noble purpose.
In this day the man that gets excited and irritable should be
looked upon as an undesirable person. The person of good breeding
now speaks with slowness and deliberation. He is cultivating more
and more of a reposeful attitude. He is consciously attentive and
holds his mind to one thing at a time. He shuts out everything
else. When you are talking to anyone give him your sole and
undivided attention. Do not let your attention wander or be
diverted. Give no heed to anything else, but make your will and
intellect act in unison.
Start out in the morning and see how self-poised you can remain
all day. At times take an inventory of your actions during the
day and see if you have kept your determination. If not, see that
you do tomorrow. The more self-poised you are the better will
your Psychic – Concentration be. Never be in too much of a hurry; and,
remember, the more you improve your Psychic – Concentration, the greater
are your possibilities. Psychic – Concentration means success, because you
are better able to govern yourself and centralize your mind; you
become more in earnest in what you do and this almost invariably
improves your chances for success.
When you are talking to a person have your own plans in mind.
Concentrate your strength upon the purpose you are talking about.
Watch his every move, but keep your own plans before you. Unless
you do, you will waste your energy and not accomplish as much as
you should.
I want you to watch the next person you see that has the
reputation of being a strong character, a man of force. Watch and
see what a perfect control he has over his body. Then I want you
to watch just an ordinary person. Notice how he moves his eyes,
arms, fingers; notice the useless expenditure of energy. These
movements all break down the vital cells and lessen the person’s
power in vital and nerve directions. It is just as important for
you to conserve your nervous forces as it is the vital forces. As
an example we see an engine going along the track very smoothly.
Some one opens all the valves and the train stops. It is the same
with you. If you want to use your full amount of steam, you must
close your valves and direct your power of generating mental
steam toward one end. Center your mind on one purpose, one plan,
one transaction.
There is nothing that uses up nerve force so quickly as
excitement. This is why an irritable person is never magnetic; he
is never admired or loved; he does not develop those finer
qualities that a real gentleman possesses. Anger, sarcasm and
excitement weaken a person in this direction. The person that
allows himself to get excited will become nervous in time,
because he uses up his nerve forces and his vital energies. The
person that cannot control himself and keep from becoming excited
cannot concentrate.
When the mind can properly concentrate, all the energy of every
microscopic cell is directed into one channel and then there is a
powerful personal influence generated. Everyone possesses many
millions of little trembling cells, and each one of these has a
center where life and energy are stored up and generated. If this
energy is not wasted but conserved and controlled, this person is
influential, but when it is the opposite, he is not influential
or successful.
Just as it is impossible for a steam engine to run with all its
valves open, so is it impossible for you to waste your energy and
run at your top speed. Each neuron in the gray layers of the
brain is a psychic center of thought and action, each one is
pulsating an intelligent force of some kind, and when this force,
your thoughts and motions, are kept in cheek by a conservative,
systematic and concentrated mind, the result will be magnetism,
vitality and health. The muscles, bones, ligaments, feet, hands
and nerves, etc., are agents for carrying out the mandates of the
mind. The sole purpose of the volitional faculties is to move the
physical mechanism as the energy travels along the wires of
nerves and muscles. Just for that reason, if you throw a
voluntary control over these messages, impulses, thoughts,
emotions, physical movements and over these physical instruments
you develop your faculties of self-mastery and to the extent you
succeed here in proportion will you develop the power of
Psychic – Concentration.
Any exercise or work that excites the mind, stimulates the
senses, calls the emotions and appetites into action, confuses,
terrifies or emotionalizes, weakens the power of Psychic – Concentration.
This is why all kind of excitement is bad. This is the reason why
persons who drink strong drinks, who allow themselves to get into
fits of temper, who fight, who eat stimulating food, who sing and
dance and thus develop their emotions, who are sudden, vehement
and emotional, lack the power to concentrate. But those whose
actions are slower and directed by their intelligence develop
Psychic – Concentration. Sometimes dogmatic, wilful, excitable persons can
concentrate, but it is spasmodic, erratic Psychic – Concentration instead
of controlled and uniform Psychic – Concentration. Their energy works by
spells; sometimes they have plenty, other times very little; it
is easily excited; easily wasted. The best way to understand it
is to compare it with the discharge of a gun. If the gun goes off
when you want it to, it accomplishes the purpose, but if it goes
off before you are ready for it, you will not only waste
ammunition, but it is also likely to do some damage. That is just
what most persons do. They allow their energy to explode, thus
not only wasting it but endangering others. They waste their
power, their magnetism and so injure their chance of success.
Such persons are never well liked and never will be until they
gain control over themselves.
It will be necessary for them to practice many different kinds of
Psychic – Concentration exercises, and to keep them up for some time. They
must completely overcome their sudden, erratic thoughts, and
regulate their emotions and movements. They must from morning to
night train the mind to be steady, and direct and keep the
energies at work.
The lower area of the brain is the store house of the energy.
Most all persons have all the dynamic energy they need if they
would concentrate it. They have the machine, but they must also
have the engineer, or they will not go very far. The engineer is
the self-regulating, directing power. The person that does not
develop his engineering qualities will not accomplish much in
life. The good engineer controls his every act. All work assists
in development. By what you do you either advance or degenerate.
This is a good idea to keep always in mind. When you are
uncertain whether you should do something or not, just think
whether by doing it you will grow or deteriorate, and act
accordingly.
I am a firm believer in “work when you work, and play when you
play.” When you give yourself up to pleasure you can develop
Psychic – Concentration by thinking of nothing else but pleasure; when your
mind dwells on love, think of nothing but this and you will find
you can develop a more intense love than you ever had before.
When you concentrate your mind on the “you” or real self, and its
wonderful possibilities, you develop Psychic – Concentration and a higher
opinion of yourself. By doing this systematically, you develop
much power, because you cannot be systematic without
concentrating on what you are doing. When you walk out into the
country and inhale the fresh air, studying vegetation, trees,
etc., you are concentrating. When you see that you are at your
place of business at a certain time each morning you are
developing steadiness of habit and becoming systematic. If you
form the habit of being on time one morning, a little late the
next, and still later the following one, you are not developing
Psychic – Concentration, but whenever you fix your mind on a certain
thought and hold your mind on it at successive intervals, you
develop Psychic – Concentration.
If you hold your mind on some chosen object, you centralize your
attention, just like the lens of the camera centralizes on a
certain landscape. Therefore always hold your mind on what you
are doing, no matter what it is. Keep a careful watch over
yourself, for unless you do your improvement will be very slow.
Practice inhaling long, deep breaths, not simply for the
improvement of health, although that is no small matter, but also
for the purpose of developing more power, more love, more life.
All work assists in development.
You may think it foolish to try to develop Psychic – Concentration by
taking muscular exercises, but you must not forget that the mind
is associated with muscle and nerve. When you steady your nerves
and muscles, you steady your mind, but let your nerves get out of
order and your mind will become erratic and you will not possess
the power of direction, which, in other words, is Psychic – Concentration.
Therefore you understand how important exercises that steady the
nerves and muscles are in developing Psychic – Concentration.
Everyone is continually receiving impulses that must be directed
and controlled if one is to lead a successful life. That is the
reason why a person must control the movements of his eyes, feet,
fingers, etc.; this is another reason why it is important to
control his breathing. The slow, deep, prolonged exhalations are
of wonderful value. They steady the circulation, the heart
action, muscles and nerves of the mind. If the heart flutters,
the circulation is not regular, and when the lung action is
uneven, the mind becomes unsteady and not fit for Psychic – Concentration.
This is why controlled breathing is very important as a
foundation for physical health.
You must not only concentrate your mind, but also the action of
the eyes, ears and fingers. Each of these contain miniature minds
that are controlled by the master engineer. You will develop much
quicker if you thoroughly realize this.
If you have ever associated with big men, or read their
biographies, you will find that they usually let the others do
the talking. It is much easier to talk than it is to listen.
There is no better exercise for Psychic – Concentration than to pay close
attention when some one is talking. Besides learning from what
they have to say, you may develop both mental and physical
Psychic – Concentration.
When you shake hands with some one just think of your hand as
containing hundreds of individual minds, each having an
intelligence of its own. When you put this feeling into your hand
shake it shows personality. When you shake hands in a listless
way, it denotes timidity, lack of force and power of personality.
When the hand grip is very weak and stiff, the person has little
love in his nature, no passion and no magnetism. When the hand
shake is just the opposite, you will find that the nature is
also. The loveless person is non-magnetic and he shows that he is
by his non-magnetic hand shake. When two developed souls shake
hands, their clasps are never light. There is a thrill that goes
through both when the two currents meet. Love arouses the
opposite currents of the positive and negative natures. When
there is no love, life loses its charm. The hand quickly shows
when love is being aroused. This is why you should study the art
of hand shaking and develop your social affections. A person that
loves his kind reflects love, but a person that hates reflects
hate. The person with a bad nature, a hateful disposition, evil
thoughts and feeling is erratic, freakish and fitful. When you
allow yourself to become irritable, watch how you breathe and you
will learn a valuable lesson. Watch how you breathe when you are
happy. Watch your breathing when you harbor hate. Watch how you
breathe when you feel in love with the whole world and noble
emotions thrill you. When filled with good thoughts, you breathe
a plentiful supply of oxygen into your lungs and love fills your
soul. Love develops a person, physically, mentally and socially.
Breathe deeply when you are happy and you will gain life and
strength; you will steady your mind and you will develop your
power of Psychic – Concentration and become magnetic and powerful.
If you want to get more out of life you must think more of love.
Unless you have real affection for something, you have no
sentiment, no sweetness, no magnetism. So arouse your love
affections by your will and enter into a fuller life.
The hand of love always magnetizes, but it must be steady and
controlled. Love can be concentrated in your hand shake, and this
is one of the best ways to influence another.
The next time you feel yourself becoming irritable, use your will
and be patient. This is a very good exercise in self-control. It
will help you to keep patient if you will breathe slowly and
deeply. If you find you are commencing to speak fast, just
control yourself and speak slowly and clearly. Keep from either
raising or lowering your voice and concentrate on the fact that
you are determined to keep your poise, and you will improve your
power of Psychic – Concentration.
When you meet people of some consequence, assume a reposeful
attitude before them. Do this at all times. Watch both them and
yourself. Static exercises develop the motor faculties and
increase the power of Psychic – Concentration. If you feel yourself getting
irritable, nervous or weak, stand squarely on your feet with your
chest up and inhale deeply and you will see that your
irritability will disappear and a silent calm will pass over you.
If you are in the habit of associating with nervous, irritable
people, quit it until you grow strong in the power of
Psychic – Concentration, because irritable, angry, fretful, dogmatic and
disagreeable people will weaken what powers of resistance you
have.
Any exercises that give you better control of the ears, fingers,
eyes, feet, help you to steady your mind; when your eye is
steady, your mind is steady. One of the best ways to study a
person is to watch his physical movements, for, when we study his
actions, we are studying his mind. Because actions are the
expressions of the mind. As the mind is, so is the action. If it
is uneasy, restless, erratic, unsteady, its actions are the same.
When it is composed, the mind is composed. Psychic – Concentration means
control of the mind and body. You cannot secure control over one
without the other.
Many people who seem to lack ambition have sluggish minds. They
are steady, patient and seemingly have good control, but this
does not say they are able to concentrate. These people are
indolent, inactive, slow and listless, because they lack energy;
they do not lose control because they have little force to
control. They have no temper and it therefore cannot disturb
them. Their actions are steady because they possess little
energy. The natural person is internally strong, energetic and
forceful, but his energy, force and strength, thoughts and
physical movements are well under his control.
If a person does not have energy, both mental and physical, he
must develop it. If he has energy which he cannot direct and hold
to a point he must learn to do so. A man may be very capable,
but, unless he Wills to control his abilities, they will not do
him any good.
We hear so much talk about the benefit of physical culture, but
the real benefit of this is really lost sight of. There is
nothing that holds the faculties at work in a sustained and
continuous manner as static exercises do. For, as stated before,
when you learn to control the body, you are gaining control over
the mind.

A journey by a web-footed gull through a sea of sharks.
Definitions:
Gull – a dupe, a fool; vulnerable to deceive; to trick; to defraud.
Shark – voracious marine fish; swindler; rapacious fellow; an expert. Shark-skin – stiff, smooth-finished!
As a gull with newly acquired webbed feet, I set out to test them on new waters. My new webbed feet allowed me to surf on waves I had never seen before, soaring high with excitement and sometimes being overwhelmed by the shear size of the waves. The waters I am discovering are vast and diverse, stretching out in all directions, some hot, some cold and some luke warm.
Diverse are also the fish in these waters. Some small and tasty but not big enough to satisfy my hunger. Others are big and juicy offering more than enough to feed on, but rather difficult to get my teeth into. This needs perseverance and a tough stance, refusing to let go. The longer I hold on the more I can bite off, and eventually the easier it will be to share with others and help them get their teeth into this big fish.
There are however, I am discovering, dangers in these waters. Surfing the seas with webbed feet attracts some other fish who are hungry to dig their greedy teeth into my flesh, and eat up everything I have. These are sharks! Stiff, smooth looking creatures, who lurk in the waves, just below the surface, out of clear view, just visible enough to be mistaken for a big meaty fish ready for feasting on.
But watch out! You other young gulls with your new webbed feet. These sharks are out to get you! They will lure you into a corner and snap at you grabbing all they can get, and leave you squirming in the foam helpless and lost and robbed!
The sharks will use any means possible to draw you towards them. Some wave fancy banners, rather similar to those banners pointing to where the good etable fish are. Still other sharks will attract you with dummy fish, which look like the real thing. But beware! Such fish are never so easy to catch and these false offers are just too easy to be true. They are traps. Try to grab one and the shark will have you.
Yes! The World Wide Web of Surfing is a dangerous place. It is an INTERwoven NETwork of goodies and dangers. I have learned to be cautious while SURFing these waters, not to be so gullible, and watch out for the many SHARKS.
Here are a few tips for young gulls.
1. Test the waters before you plunge in.
2. Never believe what you are told without first checking it out.
3. Ask some of the bigger gulls, who have evolved with experience to become dolphins. They will tell you who are the sharks to avoid.
4. A sure sign of a shark: “Come to me and I will give you plenty – immediately!” Stay clear of such ones.
5. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

When learning how to improve memory and recall, you have to ensure that it is an enjoyable process for you. If you were to find the procedure boring, there will be a huge chance that you would give up on it after a few days.

I will outline a few tricks that you can use that will enhance your ability to remember almost anything.

1. Be very attentive and observe something from all angles:

How many times have you looked directly at something or someone and then just a few minutes later, you seem to have no recollection of that item or that person. The problem was that you were not paying attention at that particular moment. To enhance your memory right away, make a conscious effort to analyze an object or person in order to store this information into your memory.

2. Think about important meetings and events later on during the same day:

To store pertinent and important data for the long-term in your memory, you should think about a person or thing several times throughout the same day that you had experienced these events. Try to imagine in your mind’s eye being there again and observing unique details.

I know that just by using the above techniques, you’ll notice a huge change in your ability to remember people, places, and things. Good luck with your goal of improving your memory and recall and remember that to be successful that you will have to put some effort into it.

I know that you will able to improve your memory if you put some effort into it. I suggest that you visit this site for memory improvement: Improve Greatly Your Memory Today

In order to find the right direction for ourselves, we have to do some soul searching. What is it I want to accomplish? Why? What kind of person do I want to become? Is it so weird to be in our thirties or forties and ask ourselves, “So, what do I want to be when I grow up?” What would make us jump out of bed excited and motivated to get the day started? Before getting into these big questions, we need to find out the roots behind our decisions. What motivates us to choose what we choose?
If you could create anything you wanted without regards to money, time, or education… what would you do? What would you create if you could wave a magic wand and it would appear? What would you have? Think on that for awhile… anything at all…. Would you create vacations and the ability to travel all over the world? Would you create an education fund for your children? Would you create your dream home? Would you create a worry free retirement? Would you create a new wardrobe? Would you create music, books, movies, art, medicine? Write down a list of things. Don’t worry about how far fetched they might sound. Just make a list of all the things you’d do and create if you had unlimited means to do so.
Why would you create those things? Of all the things you would magically create, why would you want to create them? What’s the root cause for you to want to create the list of things you’d create? What do you gain by creating those things? Do you want to create those things in order to be free? Secure? Independent? Understood? An entrepreneur? Loved? Creative? An entertainer? An adventurer? What is it you get to become by creating the things on your list? What kind of person would you be if you were the kind of person living out that list and creating those things?
Moving further back into the roots of what you are or wish to become, if you could be anything, what would you want to be? Don’t choose job descriptions, choose traits, aspects. What are you now? That’s right, “what” would you want to be, not “who” would you want to be. If you died tomorrow, what would people say about you? Were you a healer? Brave? Organized? A great parent? An intellectual? A musician? An artist? Thoughtful? Kind? A supporter of dreams? What would you want them to say about you? How would you like to be seen? Sit with these thoughts for a bit and then write down a list for yourself starting with “I want to be…”
As an example, my list narrowed down to this:
I want to be….

Loved

A healer

An entertainer

Secure

An adventurer

A goddess

Independent

An explorer

An original

Free

A supporter of dream

An inspiration

Upon reflection, I can honestly say that every goal I’ve ever felt passionate about rooted from this list. Without realizing it, I had made most of my life choices from this list.
By identifying your true motivations and desires, it becomes easier to find direction in life. Now we know where your goals come from. What’s the root beneath your dreams? There is no right or wrong answers, just ideas at the core of you. We could probably analyze what in your past makes you want to become the things you put on your list. We could analyze how close you are to being all of the things you’ve listed. It’s not important. What matters is that now you know what it is you’re aspiring to become.
Now it may seem to you that most of the things you had originally dreamed of creating were gifts you would share with others. You were going to put the kids through school. You were going to go on more vacations with your spouse. You were going to share your music with the world. You didn’t think you were being selfish. And you’re right. You were not being selfish. It’s just that everything we do serves us in some way. Every gift we give is every bit a gift to ourselves also. You give the gift of a college education to your children and you give yourself the gift of being a good parent in your own eyes, or the gift of being a supporter of others in your own eyes. You get the gift of seeing yourself as a good person. Give the gift of music to the world and you get to see yourself as a musician. You get to be what it is that you want to be.
By acknowledging to yourself how you want to be seen and what you want to be remembered for, you get in touch with your true purpose and what it is that drives you. Don’t beat yourself up if you find that you want to be something that might sound stuck up or egotistical. It’s okay to want to be liked, admired, respected. It’s not like your root motivation is to be envied, or to be superior to everyone else. It’s okay to want to be attractive, intelligent, prosperous. We’ve convinced ourselves somewhere along the way that it’s somehow wrong or evil to want to be wonderful or to be successful. The truth is, most of us would give back in appreciation for our successes. Most of us would spend more time with our loved ones. Most of us would give to charity. Most of us would do more volunteer work if we really had the time and the means. Nobody ever writes down “I want to be… greedy, selfish, and spoiled.” We want to be positive wonderful things so that we can share our positive wonderful gifts with each other. Give yourself permission to become whatever it is on your list that really resonates within your heart.
