If you are like so many other people out there, you have always told yourself that you are going to do some travelling some day, when you get around to it. The big problem for most people, is getting both the money and the time together to do it. So there really are only two options available for you to choose from. The first option is to join the military service and see the world or you can join a satellite service provider and see the world, from the safety of your couch.

The military option is far too dangerous for you anyway. With high definition satellite TV programming from Direct TV, with Dolby surround sound audio technology, its all so real looking and sounding and there are no mosquitos and you can drink the water out of your faucet and not get sick. With the National Geographic Channel you can be on safari on the African Savannah with just the click of a button, if the tigers get a little too close for comfort, you gan just click the channel to the history channel and be right in the battle for hamburger hill.

Dodging machine gun fire as you creep towards the bunker you have to blow so you can save all your buds, who are all pinned down just over the next ridge. Then its time for some music, like maybe the Montreaux Jazz Festival. Your right there in the front row and its the best concert you have ever been to and its alot safer than the history channel you were just at. The night is beautiful and the people are beautiful and your feeling the effects of the beer that your drinking, with the pizza you just had delivered.

Direct TV has some of the best high definition programming packages available, with up to thirty channels in some programming areas. Also the nice folks at Direct TV will provide you with the latest in the line of high definition receivers that they carry. With the digital video recorder, you can record every one of your couch vacations so you can show all your friends and family where you have been, when they haven’t seen you in so long.

With Direct TV you can get up to two-hundred and fifty channels, when you sign up for their biggest programming package and that includes standard digital programming and high definition. If you aren’t quite ready to take the high definition route, they have loads of programming packages that can fit anyones budget. Their entry level package is recognized in the industry as one of the best packages for the money and it doesn’t leave you short on programming.

So no matter if you just want to watch the best and the latest news, twenty-four hours a day or take in some home decorating tips you gan use or if you want to go all the way and be some kind of world traveler. Direct TV has the programming you will need to do all fo that. The folks at Direct TV also have great promotional packages for you to take a look at. Right now, among other things, they will give you a free digital camera when you sign up with them.

Planning a trip can be stressful business since there are so many unpredictable things that can be thrown into your path. There is only so much a travel book can tell you seeing as a lot of the time they are out of date and the people who write them may not have the same interests or budget as you do. One great way to get an idea of where you are going before you get there is to surf around the multitude of channels offered by satellite TV. The travel channel allows viewers to view exotic places from the comfort of their own home and may help them in choosing the destination for their next vacation.

If a location has already been selected then a person can do some quality research while using their television remote as their main tool. Knowing what kinds of clothes to pack is a very important part of planning a successful trip. There is nothing that can ruin a vacation faster than walking into pouring rain when you only have a bag full of shorts and tank tops. With the help of satellite TV you can check the forecast for your destination. Knowing what the upcoming weather is going be like will allow you to plan outfits and outings accordingly.

Knowing a bit about the culture of your vacation spot is another great idea to maximize your time there. Check out the Food Network to see what the local dishes are and what ingredients are popular in the food. Packing little travel size Tabasco bottles might be necessary if the food is known for being a little on the bland side. If the food is fantastic then watching it on television in high definition should get your appetite going, making you all the more excited to get out there and explore the culinary possibilities of your vacation spot.

Being familiar with the history and structure of your travel destination is another great idea. Checking out the History Channel and seeing what amazing information there might be about the foundation and development of a place is a great way to familiarize you with the location’s background. Knowing local customs and holidays can help you plan your trip accordingly so that you can take part in some of the festivities. Satellite TV has a wide range of channels that can educate you about the cultural components of a particular location, giving you a jump start on understanding what fun is waiting for you on the other end of the flight.

Watching some international channels can also help you practice language skills. By watching shows in the language you are traveling to you can get your ear more accustom to the words and sounds. International channels can also help you follow the local politics and sports of the area you are traveling to, providing you with conversation information when interacting with local people. With the enormous range of channels out there you can be nice and prepared for your vacation before ever setting foot on a plane.

If you want the greatest variety and quality in entertainment, look into Direct TV packages. DIRECTV is the nation’s leading provider of satellite television services. br
Over the past several decades the world has seen an explosion in the proliferation of GPS devices. They are in millions of vehicles in the form of navigation units and GPS tracking and they have made their way into the most powerful personal electronic devices available today, the cell phone. The future for this technology is bright and it could create some valuable advances to the way humans live life.

The next phase of GPS development will most definitely belong to the cell phone. Cell phones and GPS are a perfect fit for each other, but it wasnt until 2005 when a law required that cell phone providers make it possible for police and other emergency personnel to trace the origin of a call. This made perfect sense when you consider that in order to respond to some 911 calls the police and fire department need to have a way to find out where the call is coming from.

But once the technology became standard, the use of the GPS technology has exploded. We can now use the tracking and location capabilities for just about anything these days. Cell phones now have fully functional turn by turn directions that actually use text-to-speech, a feature that took standard GPS navigation devices many years to implement. Cell phones are also a lot better at being able to provide accurate location information since they can use both the Global Positioning System satellites that hover over the earth and the cell towers that dot the surface of the earth. This double action makes them particularly effective locators.

Interestingly enough, it also makes them extremely effect trackers as well. A-GPS (short for Assisted GPS) is is the latest and greatest technology in GPS tracking and do you know what it uses to improve its ability to trilaterate a position? Cell phone towers. The personal GPS device manufacturers took a play from the cell phone manufacturers book, essentially copying their success on the cell phone.

The immediate future looks bright for the cell phone as the dominant medium for all things GPS. Sure, there will always be the niche market for personal GPS tracking and vehicle or fleet tracking – but the main way that most people will interact with this technology is through their cell phones.

There are a lot of reasons for this:

Almost everyone already has a cell phone. Since you are already going to drop $100+ on a cell phone why would you then go and fork out another $250+ for a navigational GPS unit? You wont and that is why cell phones are going to win in the immediate future
In addition to that, cell phones are highly portable and extremely useful devices even if they dont have GPS capabilities. Add GPS and they become even more useful since you dont even have to be driving to get awesome directions to where ever it is you and your friends are going. Just take out your phone and get your app to tell you exactly where to go. It really is that simple
There is a massive amount of money being invested in cell phones right now. When was the last time you saw a Garmin, TomTom, or Magellan commercial on TV? Youll probably have to think about that one for a while but you might have seen one recently. Now, how often do you see a cell phone commercial on TV? The difference should be obvious and staggering.
If you arent hearing the Verizon guy asking, Can you hear me now? you are listen to Jim from NBCs The Office telling you about how cool Blackberry is or you have the CEO of Sprint telling you about their 3G network. These commercials are everywhere and the competition is only going to mean that you as a consumer are going to get a lot of options from these businesses as they fight for your service. Cell phones have way more incentive to steal customers away from traditional GPS navigation and tracking services because it will give them a massive competitive edge over their competitors
And finally, cell phone already dominate the way that the next generation communicates with each other. The speed at which a teenage girl texts is something awesome to behold and it signifies the stranglehold that cell phone and cell phone providers have over the lives of this next generation. How can Garmin compete with that?

They cant, and that is exactly why the future of GPS belongs to the cell phone.

different applications that now use GPS on a cell phone has exploded.

br
pJoe writes for a target=_new href=http://www.gpsfortoday.com rel=nofollowGPS For Today/a a website about how GPS technology intersects with the daily life of the average person. The site pays special attention to the impact of GPS tracking on families and communities. He has written extensively about a target=_new href=http://www.gpsfortoday.com/gps-tracking-for-kids/ rel=nofollowGPS tracking for children/a and feels that given the right circumstances that this is an option that some parents should take to ensure the safety of their children./pbr
Being stranded at the airport for the holidays is no fun at all. Especially when you have a suitcase full of toys for your kids and the next flight isnt for another twelve hours! You have two options. You can either spend the rest of the day in the terminal, or you could rent a car and drive home, which will only take you seven hours. You have your PDA which has a GPS navigation system built-in and your laptop.

You rent the car and get to spend the next day with your family, thanks to accurate directions provided by your palm GPS. The Garmin IQUE 3000 PDA/GPS is great for business travelers and for those who need an electronic day planner. You will be able to retrieve addresses from your address book or you can download maps from the CD that comes standard with the GPS system.

Complete with headphone jack, memory card, and rechargeable lithium battery, you will be able to travel all over the world and download directions that will be needed for safe travel.

If you are looking for a little more in your PDA/GPS navigational system, why not try the Garmin IQUE M3 Pocket PC. This device is perfect for the home office or when driving. You will be able to find driving directions for most of the highways in North America and you will also be able to download additional maps when necessary.

With Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Explorer, you will be able to use this GPS as a PC. Enjoy sending instant messages, listening to music, or writing notes with ease. There are many office functions that you can do from your car or while traveling.

When driving, you can use the turn-by-turn voice system that gives you accurate driving directions every time.
Remember family vacations when you were a kid? Waiting in a stuffy car while mom and dad pored over those massive road maps? Or, watching as they tried to decipher the directions given by the guy at the gas station? Makes us wonder how we ever found the cottage! Thankfully, modern travelers can use a GPS receiver to find their way quickly and easily.

The need for traditional maps and navigational devices has virtually disappeared since GPS devices hit the market. Now, travelers can simply refer to the GPS screen to access clear direction on where they need to go.

GPS receivers are small electronic devices that work by calculating your precise location on earth. This location is found by decoding signals received from satellites in outer space. Using additional electronics and software, it’s then possible for the GPS to pinpoint an exact location on a map. This incredible technology is available at a relatively small price.

GPS receivers become even more useful and convenient when paired with other mobile devices. A PDA is a popular consumer product that is easily used along with a GPS. PDAs have hard drive space to allow for map storage and colored screens to display maps, making them ideal technological GPS partners. When one takes into account the small size and weight of a compact PDA as compared to options such as laptop computers, it’s easy to see why PDAs are the choice of today’s tech-savvy travelers.

There is sometimes a problem with the integration of GPS receivers with PDAs. Connection between the two units is usually made using either conventional USB wires, or a CompactFlash (CF) CARD. The size of the GPS and PDA units together, and added to the added bulk of the CF card, can create a cumbersome traveler’s tool. On the other hand, using USB wires is inconvenient and limits the overall usability of the navigation device. Many people, therefore, are turning to Bluetooth technology as the perfect traveler’s companion.

Rescued by Bluetooth

Bluetooth technology is the new standard for wireless communications. With Bluetooth technology, two electronic devices are able to communicate by sending and retrieving signals and transferring data from as many as ten meters away. The information is transmitted without any wires at all.

Bluetooth GPS Receivers

A Bluetooth GPS receiver is an electronic device that uses wireless technology (namely, Bluetooth electronics) to transmit GPS data. The data is transmitted to a second wireless device, such as a PDA, that is capable of handling the technology. For example, a GPS receiver can wirelessly transmit data to a PDA handset, but only if they are both enabled with Bluetooth capabilities.

In addition to the ease and convenience of avoiding bulky CompactFlash cards and messy wires, there are other benefits to using Bluetooth technology with your GPS/PDA combination:

Flexible Freedom

Without wires to tie them down, you are free to position your GPS receiver and PDA device where it’s most convenient for you. Many travelers choose to place the GPS on the dashboard, allowing it to maintain a clear connection with satellites in the sky. The PDA is best mounted right in front of the driver, where he or she can clearly see the directions on the screen. With Bluetooth technology there are no wires to limit the convenience or obstruct your view of the screen.

Added Storage

If you are using Bluetooth technology to transmit data, you’ll have no need to plug in a CompactFlash card. The empty CF slot, therefore, can be used as a storage space for software or maps to further optimize the results of your GPS.

Bluetooth GPS manufacturers will offer further benefits with their equipment. For example, many Bluetooth GPS receivers feature a POI (points of interest) database, pre-stored maps and route re-calculation function.

So, whether your travels are taking you to the next neighborhood or another country, don’t leave home without your GPS and PDA bundled with Bluetooth technology.

They have become the must-have automotive accessory of the 2000s. Helping motorists get to their destinations without the need for a bulky map and even guiding them past traffic snarls with ease, GPS systems are now almost as indispensible as car radios. But just how do these devices work and what makes them so valuable are questions that make those who have not taken the plunge wonder if they are worth the price of admission.

The basic functioning of a GPS device is to pinpoint a person in an exact spot on the globe. What consumers purchase is technically a Global Positioning System receiver, not a GPS per say. The GPS, the real GPS, is a constellation of more than two dozen satellites the United States military installed in an earth orbit. These satellites orbit the earth twice a day. The GPS receivers consumers can buy are able to locate at least four satellites at any given time and determine the distance to each. This process results in the GPS receiver being able to pinpoint its own location on the globe.

GPS systems can operate accurately in a number of conditions, but they are not infallible. For example, GPS is accurate regardless of weather conditions or the time of day. The signals, however, can be blocked by thick forests, canyon walls, large buildings and other similar obstacles. On average, GPS systems are accurate within 15 meters, but some newer machines have a margin of error that is even less.

GPS signals are technically free to receive, but it is through paid services that motorists get the information they need the most to navigate travel. Thanks to the computerized backing services provide, GPS receivers can do more than pinpoint global position using the system of longitude, latitude and height. Extras that can come along with a GPS receiver device and a paid service include:

Road map functioning – A GPS receiver can be used in conjunction with downloadable road maps to “walk” a motorist through a trip. Some devices will even determine the best route to take a driver from Point A to Point B and give turn-by-turn verbal directions along the way.

Real-time traffic updates – Some services enable motorists to receive real-time traffic updates as they travel along a route. Intuitive services will help motorists avoid jams ahead and provide them alternative routes to take to avoid problems.

Trip planning – When the GPS system is backed by a computerized service, motorists can receive invaluable information for trip planning. Not only will a GPS system in a car determine the best route for a motorist to take, but it can also calculate travel time, distance and other important factors.

Landmark location – GPS services that provide maps and directions also sometimes offer landmark location in relation to a person’s position on the globe. Landmark information can be requested for such things as points of interest, restaurants, hotels and more.

A true GPS receiver enables people to determine exactly where in the world they are at any given time. When a receiver is supercharged thanks to a service, it can help motorists navigate travel with ease.

To determine the different channels on a DirecTV Dish means discovering which frequencies arrive in the IRD (integrated receiver/decoder). The DirecTV Dish itself is constructed of a Satellite Dish (round or oval) and one, two or three LNBs (Low Noise Block Converter). A DirecTV Dish single LNB is the device that receives satellite transmissions from only one geosynchroneous orbiting satellite in space. The DirecTV dish double LNB is able to intercept and process signals from two different satellites and triple LNB can receive signals from up to three different satellites simultaneously.

Satellite transmission is all about beaming information from long distances back and forth. The satellite dish antenna on the roof is pointing to the sky and the pointer on the dish is facing the DirecTv dish itself. The more distance traveled, the larger the area of the circle beam. A beam will only travel a certain distance and finally the signal looses power. In space, a signal should travel theoretically forever and this is why we have interference in the atmosphere, due to beams bouncing around in space.

Sunlight causes atmospheric interference. The Direct TV dish with one single LNB is designed to do the job of catching a signal as it bounces off a dish, from any area where the beams from the satellite hit that dish. The Direct TV dish must be aligned within the satellite’s broadcasting beam area and pointed in the correct direction. The beam signal will then bounce correctly and hit the LNB. Satellites stay up in space over the equator in geosynchronous orbit and point year round at one are on the earth’s surface. If the subscriber has a Direct TV double LNB, both of these will attract the beams from two different satellites from different angles.

When aligning the dish, the Direct TV signal will need to be pointed between the two orbiting satellites in order to receive data from both. When the user has Direct TV Dish Triple LNB, they are catching three different satellite beams from three different positions. A single beam can capture from 12-32 channels digitally. The more powerful the beam is, the more channels it can send. If the user has 250 channels, they will need to reach out to the other satellites carrying the transmission of all these channels. A DirectTV triple LNB receives three different signals from three different satellites in different positions in space. When this is the case, the Direct TV dish will be pointed to the middle satellite of three adjacent Direct TV satellites.

Depending on the subscriber’s need of programming, how many channels they want and how many channels are available will decide how many LNBs the subscriber needs. The DirecTV technician will install the Direct TV dish for free and, depending on the service purchased by the subscriber, will give the subscriber the proper Direct TV Dish at no additional cost as well. Direct TV’s technical installation service will assist the subscriber in mounting and aligning the Direct TV dish as part of their subscription fee.

This amazing technology is possible with Direct TV because all the channels become digital format when it is received by a subscriber. The programming is first sent through a data compression process so that the hardware is capable of distinguishing the incredible amount of information included in the channels of eight hundred and fifty years. Where information has become compressed encryption and is sent to the satellites that are far beyond Ecuador. These satellites can transmit Direct TV programming to millions of subscribers. While the travel schedule of miles before reaching your home because it is digital, it is easy for the receiver to eliminate interference.
